Patients give care at Teddy Bear Hospital

A Teddy Bear Hospital was set up Aug. 21 in Driscoll Children's Hospital's auditorium so that patients could experience "medical play" and become more comfortable with the equipment and procedures involved in their treatment. With the help of Stripes Child Life Program at Driscoll Children's Hospital specialists and volunteers from Stripes convenience stores, children chose their own Teddy bear, gave it a name and took it through various stations for medical care. They checked blood pressure, measured height and weight, attached arm-boards for IVs, gave X-rays, put anesthesia masks on the bears and participated in other treatments. The Teddy Bear Hospital and the Stripes Child Life Program at Driscoll Children's Hospital is made possible by a $1 million donation from Stripes.
