Driscoll gives back to community at annual wellness festival

Driscoll Children's Hospital has been a friend of the family for 60 years, providing high-quality healthcare and serving the children of South Texas. And, as a friend of the community for 60 years, Driscoll experts often participate at health fairs, speaking opportunities and other various events by promoting healthy lifestyles and providing information about different hospital programs.

At the 48th annual Nueces County Medical Society Health and Wellness Festival that took place Aug. 10, Driscoll Health System showed its commitment to the community. Staff members from several hospital departments, including the Diabetes and Endocrine clinic, Respiratory Department, Driscoll Health System - Pediatric Cardiology clinic, Sports Medicine Department, Injury Prevention Program and WIC Program, provided valuable information to approximately 3,000 people who attended the event.

The event takes place annually before the start of the school year and draws in many students who need physicals. Approximately 20 of Driscoll's pediatric residents gave their time at the event and provided 150 of sports physicals free of charge to these athletes.

Driscoll Health Plan, who sponsored the Children's Area, encouraged healthy activity with an obstacle course that included hula hooping, jumping rope, hopscotch, Simon says, limbo, musical squares and a beanbag toss. Children received prizes for participating at each activity station and upon finishing the obstacle course, walked away with a fun photo taken in a photo booth complete with props.
