Cancer warriors honored for bravery

On Sept. 7, Driscoll Children's Hospital honored the fighting spirit of its cancer patients and commemorated Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a warrior-themed celebration aboard the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay. Patients and their families from throughout South Texas enjoyed dinner, face painting, a photo booth, balloon artist, a flight simulator and tours of the ship. Each patient was presented with a souvenir dog tag by a member of the armed forces, and Corpus Christi City Councilwoman Lillian Riojas read a proclamation declaring Sept. 7 Childhood Cancer Awareness Day.
