Emergency Department Renovation Begins at Driscoll

Even more WONDERFUL

Driscoll Children's Hospital knows that when a child needs emergency medical services, it's important that care is delivered in the most comforting environment possible. In our ongoing commitment to meet the needs of South Texas families, we're renovating our emergency department.

This project will begin in summer 2013 and last about 18 months. The result will be an even more child friendly, efficient emergency department that is welcoming, calming and caring.

Updating SUPER

What you'll see

The emergency department is Driscoll's most visible department and the hospital's "front door." The redesign project will literally change the face of the hospital. Here are some of the new features you'll see when it is complete:
  • Two trauma rooms
  • Twenty private exam rooms
  • Two triage areas with ideal visibility to the waiting area
  • An expanded waiting area
  • An expanded central nursing station
  • A new ambulance vestibule and weather protection canopy
  • An outward extension of the building, allowing for an expanded lobby

Continued SERVICE

Driscoll Children's Hospital emergency services will continue throughout the construction process.

By the NUMBERS

In 1987, Driscoll became the first hospital in South Texas to offer emergency services specifically for children, and our emergency department serves about 35,000 children each year. The $12 million project includes renovating 18,500 square feet of existing space for better utilization and patient flow as well as increasing our front lobby by 5,000 square feet.

We appreciate your patience while renovation and construction is under way, and we hope you're as excited as we are to see the enhancements taking place. Driscoll Children's Hospital has been honored to serve the families of South Texas for 60 years. Our redesigned, state-of-the-art emergency department will enable us to continue providing the same high-quality medical care to future generations.
