Commitment and Standards
The Critical Care Transport Team is committed to providing the highest standard of care to your child. We maintain our commitment to the safety of our patients by following industry-established weather minimums for both ground and air transports. All air transports take place with instrument flying, a Terrain Awareness and Warning System, and Night Vision Goggles, as needed. Ambulance drivers on our team re-certify with the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course annually.
Our team includes:
- Registered nurses
- Registered respiratory therapists
- Paramedics
During the transport process, our team members are in constant contact with Driscoll Children’s Hospital medical control physicians via telephone and two-way radio communications. Advanced communication equipment and the availability of transport physicians allows our team to provide critical, lifesaving care throughout the entire transport process.
Driscoll's commitment to the children of South Texas, no matter the distance, is reflected in our 24/7 presence at our bases in the Coastal Bend and Rio Grande Valley. A full team remains on standby to minimize waiting time for a child to receive needed care.
Driscoll Children’s Hospital Critical Care Transport Team enlists the use of:
- Two Pilatus PC-12 fixed-wing aircraft
- Three Bell 407 helicopters
- One Twin Engine IFR Bell 429 helicopter
- Four critical care pediatric ambulances
