Driscoll held a press conference on Monday, March 4, where longtime partner Flint Hills Resources presented a generous $100,000 check to help expand Driscoll Heart Center.
Standing inside the hospital’s Pavilion, Driscoll and Flint Hills Resources leadership celebrated the moment and spoke about the upcoming Fiesta de los Niños, an annual fundraising event sponsored by Flint Hills Resources where businesses and members of the community join to raise funds for Driscoll.
“For 32 years we have been arm and arm with Flint Hills Resources as we put on Fiesta de los Niños,” said Driscoll Children’s Hospital Vice President of Development Sean Pieri.
Director of Public Affairs for Flint Hills Resources Corpus Christi Refinery Andy Saenz explained the rich history of sponsorship for the event.
“Our plant manager 32 years ago planned a small backyard barbeque, a small little fundraiser for the hospital, probably didn’t raise that much money. Fast forward more than three decades, and here we are today. Fiesta de los Niños is the social event of the region. There’s Fiesta de los Niños and then there’s everybody else!” Saenz said.
“What is more important than your children’s health? Nothing. When your child gets sick, especially if they are critically ill, the world stops,” Saenz said.
The $100,00 check is the largest gift yet by Flint Hills Resources and will be used to help build 80,000 square feet of additional care space for patients, including four new surgical rooms and 35 intensive care beds.
The 32nd annual Fiesta de los Niños will take place at the end of the month, on March 22. Learn more or sign up to attend at donate.driscollchildrens.org/fiesta
Flint Hills Resources has been a proud sponsor of the event for 32 years and has donated a total of $1.4 million to Driscoll Children’s Hospital over the years.
