Cristobal VilchisSegovia Named Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s 2026 Nurse of the Year

Driving off in a BMW for the next year is just one of the perks for Cristobal VilchisSegovia, Driscoll Children's Hospital’s 2026 Nurse of the Year.
The award was announced during a special luncheon honoring DAISY Award recipients in partnership with Principle Automotive. As part of the partnership, VilchisSegovia will rotate through four BMW vehicles over the next year.
VilchisSegovia, a nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), earned the recognition through nominations from coworkers and patients who praised both his clinical skill and compassionate care.
In one nomination, CICU registered nurse Brenda Green highlighted VilchisSegovia’s ability to care for some of the hospital’s most medically complex patients while maintaining a positive attitude and consistently supporting fellow nurses and families.
“Every time I come to work, either as charge or staff, I am so relieved and happy if I see that Cristo is on the team that day,” Green wrote.

Another nomination from a former patient reflected on the compassionate care VilchisSegovia provided during a difficult hospitalization.
“You are my favorite nurse and I’ll always cherish the way you cared for me,” the patient wrote.
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program honoring nurses who provide extraordinary compassionate care. At Driscoll, the award highlights nurses who go above and beyond in their commitment to children and families across South Texas.
