Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley Dedicates Chapel Renovation

At Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley, a newly renovated chapel now offers a quiet place for reflection, prayer and support during difficult moments.

Hospital leaders, staff and community members gathered to dedicate the chapel and recognize the generosity of the Vicky and Luis Flores Jr. family, whose support funded the renovation.

“This chapel dedication marks an important moment for Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley,” said Matthew Wolthoff, president of Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley. “The chapel provides a quiet space for families, visitors and staff during times that can be very difficult.”

“Through this generous endowment gift, the Flores family has created a lasting legacy that will sustain Chaplain Services in perpetuity, helping ensure that patients and families continue to receive comfort, spiritual guidance, and compassionate care during life’s most vulnerable moments,” said Yvette C. Padilla, director of Major Gifts with Driscoll Children’s Hospital Development Foundation. “The accompanying renovation of the chapel space further reflects a deep commitment to healing the whole person — mind, body, and spirit.”

The renovated space was designed to support patients, families and employees seeking comfort, privacy and spiritual care within the hospital.

“We are grateful to the Flores family for their generosity in funding this renovation,” Wolthoff said. “Their support reflects a meaningful commitment to this hospital and the community we serve.”

“The Flores family and Chorizo de San Manuel are deeply honored to support the chapel dedication at Driscoll Children's Hospital,” the family said in a prepared statement. “This beautiful and peaceful space was thoughtfully created to provide comfort, reflection and prayer for patients, families and the dedicated Driscoll team. We hope this chapel serves as a place of quiet strength, hope and healing during life’s most meaningful moments, and we are proud to be part of a mission that brings compassion and care to the children and families of South Texas.”

Hospital leaders also recognized the architects, contractors and project teams who helped complete the renovation.

The chapel reflects Driscoll’s commitment to supporting the emotional and spiritual well-being of patients, families and staff throughout the hospital experience.
