We offer state-of-the art cardiac CT and MRI imaging to evaluate cardiac structure and function in children and adults with congenital heart disease. At Driscoll Children’s Hospital, we perform approximately 600 studies per year. All studies are performed by highly trained technicians and supervised by highly specialized, board-certified cardiologists and radiologists with expertise in advanced cardiac imaging.
Cardiac MRI and CT can produce high-resolution images of the heart to support diagnostic planning for complex congenital and acquired heart lesions, and 3-D modeling for surgical planning. We perform studies with or without anesthesia, depending on the age of the patient and ability to cooperate for the study. We offer pharmacological stress MRI (Dobutamine and Regadenoson) to evaluate heart muscle perfusion in the presence of coronary artery problems. We also offer fetal MRI for a detailed evaluation of the fetal organs in conjunction with the fetal ultrasound.
We emphasize child-friendly protocols, safety, quality, and use entertainment aids for MRI (movie goggles) to decrease the sedation need. We are committed to providing the best experience for patients and their families.
