An echocardiogram (echo) is a non-invasive imaging and pain-free test that uses ultrasound (high-frequency sound waves) from a hand-held wand to provide pictures of the heart's valves and chambers. Echocardiograms are crucial for the diagnosis and monitoring of heart conditions. All studies are performed by highly trained pediatric cardiac sonographers, registered in pediatric echocardiography. We offer state-of-the art pediatric echocardiographic services in the catheterization labs, intensive care units, pediatric floors, operating rooms, and multiple outpatient clinics. Our Echo Lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for transthoracic, transesophageal, and fetal echocardiography.
Our Echo lab includes a highly specialized team of cardiologists with expertise in cardiac imaging. We perform over 18,000 echocardiograms and 1,200 fetal echocardiograms each year to diagnose and evaluate congenital and acquired heart problems. We offer advanced imaging tools such as stress echocardiography, strain imaging and 3D imaging. We have a robust telemedicine program where cardiologists can perform real-time interpretation of echocardiograms at outside hospitals, enabling prompt care and intervention without delay. We are committed to providing high-quality echocardiographic services for patients across various satellite locations of Driscoll Children’s Hospital in South Texas.
The Heart Center echo sonographers are highly trained to perform imaging services on pregnant mothers, premature babies, newborns and children. With years of specialized experience, our team can quickly recognize problems and abnormalities of the heart.
