At Driscoll Children’s Hospital, Corpus Christi, every child is a VIP to us—or a Very Important Patient! Food, and the nutrition it provides, is an important part of the recovery process. Our facility is well-equipped to serve each patient the food they need to reach their recovery goals. Retail food service options are available to our patient’s families and visitors. Read on to learn more about all our Food and Nutrition Team has to offer.

Patient Meals

We offer various nutrition-specific menus to accommodate the therapeutic diet order prescribed by your child's doctor. Our patients receive meal service for three meals per day during their hospital stay. Diet Technicians contact the room phone one day in advance to offer appropriate food selections for your child during their stay. Our team of culinary professionals, cooks, and dietary clerks ensures your child gets the best quality meals possible.

Menu:
Patient menus are carefully created by our team of culinary professionals and Registered Dietitians to meet current nutrition standards consistent with each patient’s treatment plan. 

Patient Meal Service Times: 
Breakfast: 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Dinner: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Additional packaged beverages and snacks are available from the Nourishment Room on each floor. Ask your child’s nurse for details.

If your child is prescribed a restrictive menu, details will be provided during your stay. Your needs are important to us! Please share any special requests regarding cultural, religious, or ethnic preferences with your Diet Technician.

In order to comply with the doctor’s orders, we discourage patients from consuming outside food and beverages. Contact the Food Service Operations for questions at (361) 694-5188.

The Food Factory - Cafeteria

The Food Factory is our cafeteria located on the lower level of the main hospital available to visitors and staff. Our talented retail chefs work hard to provide five food stations Monday through Friday with multiple options for meals and snacks.

In addition, breastfeeding mothers of patients are eligible to receive meal ticket vouchers to be redeemed at The Food Factory. Let us take care of you as you take care of the nutritional needs of your child. Learn more about Meal Vouchers.

Food Stations

Chef’s Table
Offers two different hot meal selections daily with sides and a dessert.

Hand-Crafted Deli
Open daily for deluxe build-your-own sandwiches.

Action Station
Houses the Salad Bar on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Discover a unique culinary experience on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Delicious soup selection offered daily.

The Grill 
Presents pre-made and made-to-order options—it’s a real crowd-pleaser!

Simply To Go 
Caters to those wanting ease and convenience with refrigerated salads, desserts, and other delicious snacks.

Food Factory Hours of Operation

Breakfast 
Served 6:30–9:30 a.m. for hot food selection. Other retail items are available until 10:30 a.m.

Lunch Stations 
Open 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. The Grill only remains open until 4 p.m.

Dinner Selections 
Served 5–6:30 p.m. The Grill will close last at 7 p.m.

Clara’s Café

Clara Cafe at Driscoll Childrens Hospital

Named after our beloved founder Clara Driscoll, Clara’s Café is the perfect place for a meal, a coffee, or just a mid-day pick-me-up. You can find Clara’s Cafe on the first floor of the main hospital near The Carousel Gift Shop. Additional seating is available outside of Clara’s Café and down Whataburger Way.

Menu

Clara’s Café offers delicious favorites like pizza, quesadillas and a great selection of snack boxes with fresh salad, fruit, meat and cheese combinations. Daily soup, dessert and other specials are created fresh by our talented culinary team. We also offer made-to-order beverages including smoothies and coffee (hot or iced). Follow your nose to Clara’s Café and discover it for yourself!

Hours of Operation:

Clara’s Café is open from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM.

Vending Machines

Craving something salty or sweet? We have four vending machine locations: in the basement outside the Driscoll Food Factory, on the first floor on Whataburger Way, on the second floor by the PICU waiting area and on the third floor in the NICU waiting area. Vending machines are available 24 hours a day. Free coffee and microwaves are located on every inpatient floor.
