As a resident at Driscoll Children’s Hospital, we know you aren’t just building your career, you’re building your life. From creating a tight-knit community to growing your own family—our program aims to make sure you have support for the things that are most important to you.
It’s important for our residents to spend time outside of the hospital with co-residents and medical education staff.
In late October, we go to a retreat at Camp Zephyr, about 50 miles away from campus, and spend a weekend of fun and camaraderie with the Program Director, Associate Program Directors and Chief Residents. Some of the activities done in the past have included paintball, zip lining, wall climbing and an Amazing Race concluding the event.
In spring, a second retreat is held (usually a single-day event). Past activities include spending time on the beach or day camping at Lake Corpus Christi. Families are encouraged to participate.
The result: participants return to the hospital feeling recharged and with a greater sense of togetherness.
With the challenge of our residency curriculum and the responsibilities of patient care, we make sure to incorporate resident wellness activities into our program.
Resident-Led Activities
From meal allowance to medical book reimbursement to covering several kinds of insurance—DCH provides a host of benefits to support you and your family, so you can focus on becoming the best pediatrician possible.
Wellness Curriculum
We have a robust wellness curriculum aimed at providing tools for physicians. Dr. Parmar engages residents through case-based discussions on wellness issues related to their working environment, how to prevent burnout and promote mental health.
Whether you’re new to South Texas or just new to the DCH residency program, you’ll find great neighborhoods to live in and plenty to do and see in Corpus Christi.
