As a resident at Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley, we know you aren’t just building your career, you’re building your life. From creating a tight-knit community to growing your own family—our program aims to make sure you have support for the things that are most important to you.
It’s important for our residents to spend time outside of the hospital with co-residents and medical education staff.
Residents will participate in a Fall Retreat and a Spring Refresh each year to work on Teambuilding and Wellness as a program. These activities will occur off campus and are designed to allow residents to return to the hospital feeling recharged and with a greater sense of togetherness.
Driscoll provides residents many built in supports to wellness including a physician lounge, meal allowance, resident lounge, education fund, wellness stipend and more. This structural support lets residents focus on becoming the best pediatrician possible.
In addition, we have a robust wellness curriculum aimed at providing residents lifelong tools for physician wellness. This includes case-based discussions, burnout and fatigue prevention, leadership training, and promotion of mental health.
Whether you’re new to South Texas or just new to the DCH residency program, you’ll find great neighborhoods to live in and plenty to do and see in the Rio Grande Valley.
