Alumni Testimonials
“Being born and raised on the Texas Gulf Coast, the name and brand of Driscoll Children’s Hospital has always been well known to me. As I got older and became more engrossed in my dream of becoming a physician, the more I learned about Driscoll the more interested I became. Now, I can tell you without a doubt, the interest in Driscoll was well-placed When looking for residency programs, I was looking for a program that would appropriately prepare me not only for my board exams, but for real-world experiences as a primary care pediatrician. At Driscoll I not only found attending physicians and upper level residents that were approachable and interested in teaching, but colleagues and friends that will last a lifetime. Prior to medical school I had a career in the oil and gas industry here in Texas and was considered a non-traditional applicant going into medical school. Things that I thought I would have to explain away during my residency interview were treated as strengths by those I talked to, and I felt as though I was visiting with people I had known my whole life. At Driscoll you will find a program that not only cares about board scores, fellowship placements, and careers of its residents, it’s a program that truly cares about each individual resident and will do everything to set each resident up for success. I now own and operate a private outpatient general pediatrics clinic, and everyday something I learned or an experience I had at Driscoll is beneficial to my patients. Not to mention, many of my previous attendings and co-residents have now become close friends and a referral source for my patients needing specialty care. Thank you for considering Driscoll in your residency search. If you are looking for a program that will allow you to match into the fellowship of your choice, a program to set you up for success in primary care pediatrics, or somewhere that will treat you as an individual and allow you to thrive, Driscoll is the place to be.“

“When searching for a residency program, I wanted a program that would challenge me clinically while supporting me as a trainee, and I found exactly that and more at Driscoll. As a free-standing children’s hospital in South Texas, it serves a diverse and vulnerable population and is staffed by dedicated caregivers deeply committed to their patients. The complexity of the cases here gave me early, meaningful responsibility and prepared me to manage high-acuity situations with confidence. These experiences sparked my interest in pediatric critical care, and I was fortunate to have mentors at Driscoll who guided me and set me up for success in fellowship and beyond. What truly sets residency training at Driscoll apart is the genuine sense of community among trainees and the faculty’s wholehearted investment in residents’ growth. The program is diverse, welcoming, rigorous yet supportive, providing the skills and resilience needed to thrive. I will always be proud to call myself a Driscoll alum. The days may be long, but the years go by quickly and the Driscoll family is there to support you through every step.”

“Completing my pediatric residency at Driscoll Children’s Hospital was an incredibly rewarding experience. Corpus Christi is a wonderful place to train - the calming presence of the water created a perfect balance to the demands of residency. As someone who grew up in Brownsville, it was especially meaningful to train in a community that felt so familiar and close to home. I’m passionate about serving the children and families of South Texas, and Driscoll gave me the foundation to do just that. What stood out most to me, though, was the strong sense of community at Driscoll. Everyone knows your name, and you’re never just another resident- you’re part of a family that supports and celebrates each other. The mentorship, camaraderie, and hands-on experience I received prepared me exceptionally well for the next step in my career, fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine.”

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to complete my pediatric residency at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed into a supportive environment that made it a joy to come to work every day. The hospital brings together highly experienced physicians across many specialties who are always willing to teach, along with exceptional nurses whose skill, dedication, and passionate advocacy for their patients are truly inspiring. The state-of-the-art facilities and top-quality resources allowed me to learn and practice with the confidence that our patients were receiving the very best care. The program’s strong commitment to daily didactics, combined with the hands-on training, gave me a solid foundation in pediatrics and the certainty that I am well prepared to provide excellent care to my patients. Equally important, the residency fostered a healthy balance between work and personal life, which allowed me to grow as a physician while still caring for my family. Training at Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, and I carry forward not only the knowledge and skills I gained, but also the spirit of compassion and excellence that defines this institution. Driscoll will always be in my heart!!!”

“I remember seeing Driscoll when my parents would drop me off at school, and thinking about how being a doctor and serving the children in my community would be a dream come true. From my first day as an intern to now serving as chief resident, I still feel like I’m living in a dream. I met my best friends in this residency program. We have shared so many amazing memories and overcame so many life moments together that I feel only we would truly understand after training for three years together. I met my mentors who have contributed to my growth and inspired me to become the best version of myself. I met my advisor who kept me hungry for knowledge and curious with the unknown. I met my preceptor who believed in me in really tough times. Coming from different backgrounds and experiences is the strength of our program. We have built a sense of family in our residency, and I could not have asked for better people to work with. Growing and learning alongside my co-resident has been life changing. In addition to our lovely residency program, our hospital gives us a lot of opportunities to learn! There are many rare cases that I’ve only read in our textbooks that I've encountered here. We also learn from the wisdom and pearls that each attending carries, which ultimately helps us build our clinical acumen! Lastly, the warm and supportive environment that Driscoll has is extraordinary. Throughout the years, I’ve become more confident in myself and in my training at Driscoll, and I wouldn’t trade my experience here for anything in the world.”

“As a native South Texan, I grew up coming to Driscoll and have firsthand experience with the exceptional care provided here. I am also deeply familiar with the rich culture of South Texas—one that is family-centered and community-driven. This culture shaped me and was the driving motivation behind becoming a physician: to serve the children of South Texas. The region is not without its challenges, including health-related issues, and I knew I wanted to be part of the solution and care for families in the area I call home. Throughout my life, I saw Driscoll not only as a hospital, but as a pillar of excellence and a trusted cornerstone of our community. Families rely on Driscoll in their most vulnerable moments, and its reputation for compassionate, high-quality care that truly always puts patients first left a lasting impression on me. From the moment I started training here, I felt fully supported by the faculty, staff, and the community itself. Driscoll fosters a true sense of belonging, extended to all residents, whether native Texans or international graduates. It is no surprise that so many who come from outside the region choose to stay and continue serving here. Because Driscoll serves such a large area, we have the opportunity to see high volumes of both common pediatric conditions and rare, complex cases. We are also lucky to be able to work with nearly every subspecialty. The combination of this rich clinical experience and strong community foundation makes Driscoll a truly unique place to grow as a physician. For me, choosing Driscoll wasn’t just about excellent training—it was about coming home. I know this program is preparing me to be the best pediatrician I can be, while also allowing me to give back to the community that raised me and the population that inspired me.”
